Tricks & Tips for teachers..A Linky 2.12.15

Happy Thursday!
I am linking up with
Becca @ Foxwell Forest
for a LINKY!
My TIP…
Getting Kids to Write
Read a story to them.
Have a WHOLE class discussion about the story…
characters, problem, solution, how they could CHANGE the story,
unknown vocabulary, make connections with the book.
THEN…
(TEACHERS——-BACK AWAY!)
WHAT????
But….they will MAKE MISTAKES!
They won’t write complete, descriptive sentences….
They will have sloppy handwriting!
UGH!!!!!

Yes. They WILL.
BREATHE! It’s OK.
If you want kids to write. I mean write from the heart…
YOU MUST LET THEM WRITE!
Give them blank paper, markers, colored pencils and let them WRITE!
It is sloppy, messy, and unstructured…AT FIRST!
But, as with EVERYTHING else,  practice will make it better!
Add some lined paper, mini booklets, More Vocabulary words…
And with consistent discussion, modeling, more discussion , & practice
IT WILL GET BETTER!
So …here is a little preview of our
PRACTICE!
Abraham Lincoln was our writing FOCUS…

SOOOOOO  much better than the beginning of the year!
And it will get better in the months to come!
Relax, breathe….and let them WRITE! 🙂

Giving our kids the freedom to write is so important! If the piece needs to be published editing can happen later! Some kids can get so stuck on the mechanics of writing, that they have a hard time getting their thoughts down on the paper. Thanks so much for sharing your tip Wendy and for linking up!!
