#KindnessCounts

This  month our classroom “theme” has been
KINDNESS  COUNTS

I work in a low socioeconomic, Title 1 school.

I have EL students,
a multicultural class,
 a homeless student,
AND

THE MOST AMAZING FAMILIES!

My grade level decided to HOST a
Canned Food Drive
to teach our students
about

GIVING

We started with a simple
note to go home.

We as a class, decided OUR CLASS goal
 would be 100 cans
 in 10 school days.

If we met our goal, we would earn a donut party!
(HUGE  REWARD FOR FIRSTIES!)

I always try to have the class decide on the goals.

Not MY goal to accomplish…
OUR GOAL!

We decided our NAME would be
YES WE  CAN!
( I think I found that on PINTEREST!)

Now it would have been your ordinary
CANNED FOOD DRIVE
but,

MY families GAVE FROM THE HEART!

Some gave 1.
Some gave 10.

One Mom gave me 1 can and said
“she wished she could give more,
but in DECEMBER  money is really tight,
and she might need the other cans to
FEED  HER  FAMILY!”

After I wiped the tears,
I tried to give her the can back.

NO WAY!
PROUD PEOPLE!
She wanted her son to learn to GIVE!

KINDNESS  COUNTS

After it was over,
75  First  Graders collected

352 cans
to donate to the local
SALVATION  ARMY  FOOD  BANK!
Hubby brought the truck, we loaded them up, and off we went!
I played CHRISTMAS music on the way there.
Makes my heart happy!

KINDNESS  COUNTS!

Lots of helpers unloaded the truck.
VERY  Thankful  people.

So…the next time YOU hear the bells..
or see the RED  KETTLE..
You might want to
Give from the HEART!

KINDNESS  COUNTS!

PS…
The family who gave one…
Someone  brought them a box
with a frozen turkey
 and all of the fixings
for a HUGE dinner!

THANKS  SANTA!

(  WINK….WINK )
🙂
