EPIC FAILURE

I should have known!
I should have known!
When kids are QUIET…TOO QUIET…I should have known!
Today I introduced a new center into our
MAY DO’S…
IT WAS A GREAT MINI LESSON!
I showed them the WORD STAMPS!
Modeled, discussed, made words to showed  them how, set up / clean up…
the WHOLE ENCHILADA!
They could stamp words using the “self-inking” letter stamps…

OR…
The WORD stamps …using the PROVIDED ink pads!
( Not tough, right?)

Paper is always in the writing center…and
“LET THE WORDS FLOW!”
Word Work Heaven…
NOT!
As I was busy pulling groups for GUIDED READING,
I thought it was a “little to quiet over there…”
(shoulda known).
Here is what they did…
“Almost”…. stamped letters & words…
AND  THEN????
THEY stamped the FLOOR!
With Permanent INK!
( These pictures were AFTER we tried to get it off!)
Wouldn’t have been so sad…except they were JUST cleaned!)
OH NO!

Breathe! So…
After I took ALL of the stamps, ink pads, and PAPER
AWAY! ( Time out!)
Who do I tell first?
Janitor?
Admin?
Teacher next door?
I chose neither…
Trusty Miracle Cleaner to the rescue…
I swear….these things clean ANYTHING!
So…after I gave my students the
” I am SOOOOO  disappointed…lecture”
and the
“These will be put away until I feel you are responsible enough” lecture…
We   They  cleaned the floor and then …
Life  goes on!
BUT I had just given them the greatest mini lesson on how to use the stamps…
EPIC  FAILURE!
Next lesson to happen SOON!
Well…not too soon!
(They can write the words with markers for awhile).
Again…Life goes ON!  🙂
